Hiking Skyline Drive at Shenandoah National Park 31 December, 2010 (10 miles)

Hiking Skyline Drive at Shenandoah National Park 31 December, 2010 (10 miles): 31 Dec, 2010 (10 miles)

The last day of 2010. We decided to do our 'traditional year end hike'. It was sunny, but cold; in the 30s. We headed toward the Shenandoah mountains at 7 in the morning. The Skyline drive was closed because of ice and sleet on the road. Turns out that most of it was melted. The fact that the road was blocked to vehicles gave us one of the rare opportunities to hike on Skyline drive. We were the kings of the road. The clear sunny day grew warmer to about 45 degrees and we enjoyed the solitude with an occasional deer walking across the street. What a wonderful hike to close 2010...
